Join us as we tackle one of the most pressing humanitarian challenges of our time: the dilemma of climate refugees. As climate change drives more people from their homes due to rising seas, droughts, and extreme weather, millions are left without legal protection or a place to turn. In this committee, delegates will step into the role of global decision-makers, working in the UNHCR to create and discuss innovative solutions for resettlement, legal recognition, and international cooperation. Whether you're passionate about human rights, environmental justice, or global diplomacy, this is your chance to make a difference on the frontlines of the climate crisis.
About the Chairs
Sarah Sylvan 11th Grade
Hi! My name is Sarah, and I’m so excited to be one of your chairs for the UNHCR Climate Refugees committee at MASMUNC III! I joined Model UN in my sophomore year, so I was pretty new to everything at first, but over time I’ve gained a much deeper understanding and appreciation for the world of MUN. Outside of conferences, I love photography and working on my tennis technique whenever I get the chance. I’m really looking forward to seeing how each of you brings your unique perspectives and creativity to this committee. The topic of climate refugees is complex, but I can’t wait to see the thoughtful discussions and innovative solutions you’ll come up with. Best of luck, and I hope you enjoy the conference!

Maria Viniegra, 10th Grade
Hello! My name is Maria and I am thrilled to be part of the UNHCR committee. Outside from Model UN, I really enjoy photography, fiber arts, and canoeing. Although I am new to the Masters Model UN team, I have been doing Model UN since 2021. I am looking forward to experiencing my first MASMUNC, and learning from a new community filled with different perspectives and values. I am especially excited about this committee as UNHCR was my first ever debate when I first started MUN. I can’t wait to see how your abilities grow throughout the debate. Good luck!
